Antioxidants are substances or nutrients in our foods which can prevent or slow the oxidative damage to our body. When our body cells use oxygen, they naturally produce free radicals (by-products) which can cause damage. Antioxidants act as "free radical scavengers" and they like prevent and repair damage done by these free radicals.

See, antioxidants are reactive little blighters, and they especially like to react with free radicals, thus rendering them harmless. free radicles age us and they cause mutations in cell, which may lead to cancerrrrr.

These are nutrients in foods (e.g. vitamins A, C, E) that prevent oxidative damage to the body. Oxidation is like rust–damage that occurs from exposure to oxygen. Oxidation creates what are called "free radicals" in the body. The body uses antioxidants to counteract free radicals, which reduces cancer risk, aging, and has a host of other benefits.
