Is l-glutathione broken down to more basic components when taken orally?
I read that the l-glutathione molecule is too large to be abosrbed in the intestines, but so are proteins and starches. Is glutathione then broken down to its more basic components? Since it is an amino acid, does our body have anenzyme that can break it down so that it can be absorbed? I’m asking since I’m interested in its ability to detoxify the body of heavy metals from pollution, car exhausts, etc. Also, if the body doesn’t absorb it through the intestines, how come it is being sold as a supplement and, in certain instances, a skin whitener (in higher dosages)?
