PostHeaderIcon Doctors say Avoid Goji Fruit at all Costs

http://www.JumpstartYourDreams.com/nm.htm

goji fruit

Goji Uses

Dried Goji are almost never found in their fresh form outside of their production regions, and are usually sold in open boxes and small packages in dried form. The amount of desiccation varies in wolfberries: some are soft and somewhat tacky in the manner of raisins, while others may be very hard.

Goji Culinary
As a food, dried wolfberries are traditionally cooked before consumption. Dried wolfberries are often added to rice congee, as well as used in Chinese tonic soups, in combination with chicken or pork, vegetables, and other herbs such as wild yam, Astragalus membranaceus, Codonopsis pilosula, and licorice root. The berries are also boiled as an herbal tea, often along with chrysanthemum flowers and/or red jujubes, or with tea, particularly pu-erh tea, and packaged teas are also available.

Various wines containing wolfberries (called g?uq? ji?; ???) are also produced, including some that are a blend of grape wine and wolfberries.

At least one Chinese company also produces goji beer, and New Belgium Brewery makes their seasonal Springboard ale with wolfberries used as flavoring. Since the early 21st century, an instant coffee product containing goji extract has been produced in China.

Young goji shoots and leaves are also grown commercially as a leaf vegetablephotorecipe

Goji Macronutrients
goji contains significant percentages of a day’s macronutrient needs carbohydrates, protein, fat and dietary fiber. 68% of the mass of dried wolfberries exists as carbohydrate, 12% as protein, and 10% each as fiber and fat, giving a total caloric value in a 100 gram serving of 370 (kilo)calories.

Goji Micronutrients and phytochemicals
Wolfberries contain many nutrients and phytochemicals including

11 essential and 22 trace dietary minerals
18 amino acids
6 essential vitamins
8 polysaccharides and 6 monosaccharides
5 unsaturated fatty acids, including the essential fatty acids, linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid
beta-sitosterol and other phytosterols
5 carotenoids, including beta-carotene and zeaxanthin (below), lutein, lycopene and cryptoxanthin, a xanthophyll
numerous phenolic pigments (phenols) associated with antioxidant properties
Select examples given below are for 100 grams of dried berries. Other nutrient data are presented in two reference texts

Calcium. Wolfberries contain 112 mg per 100 gram serving, providing about 8-10% of the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI).

Potassium. Wolfberries contain 1,132 mg per 100 grams dried fruit, giving about 24% of the DRI.
Iron. Wolfberries have 9 mg iron per 100 grams (100% DRI).
Zinc. 2 mg per 100 grams dried fruit (18% DRI).
Selenium. 100 grams of dried wolfberries contain 50 micrograms (91% DRI)
Riboflavin (vitamin B2). At 1.3 mg, 100 grams of dried wolfberries provide 100% of DRI.
Vitamin C. Vitamin C content in dried wolfberries has a wide range (from different sources) from 29 mg per 100 grams to as high as 148 mg per 100 grams (respectively, 32% and 163% DRI).
Wolfberries also contain numerous phytochemicals for which there are no established DRI values. Examples:

Beta-carotene: 7 mg per 100 grams dried fruit.
Zeaxanthin. Reported values for zeaxanthin content in dried wolfberries vary considerably, from 2.4 mg per 100 grams to 82.4 mg per 100 grams to 200 mg per 100 grams. The higher values would make goji one of the richest edible plant sources known for zeaxanthin content. Up to 77% of total carotenoids present in goji exist as zeaxanthin.
Polysaccharides. Polysaccharides are a major constituent of wolfberries, representing up to 31% of pulp weight.

Goji goji polysaccharides
One study published in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology found that:

Endogenous lipid peroxidation, and decreased antioxidant activities, as assessed by superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and total antioxidant capacity (TAOC), and immune function were observed in aged mice and restored to normal levels in Lycium polysaccharide-treated groups.
Antioxidant activities of Lycium barbarum polysaccharides were found to be compable with normal antioxidant, vitamin C. Furthemore, adding vitamin C to the polysaccharide treatment further increased in vivo antioxidant activity of the polysaccharides.
It was concluded that Lycium barbarum polysaccharides can be used to compensate for the decline in TAOC, immune function and activities of antioxidant enzymes thereby reducing age-accelerated risks of lipid peroxidation caused by free radical production.

PostHeaderIcon Which do you think is the best antioxidant supplement out in the market today?

I’ve tried reduced glutathione, grapeseed extract and now I’m using 4G ‘coz it’s much cheaper than the 2. Please help, I want my money’s worth….

Eat only when hungry and not more than thrice a day. Include plenty of uncooked vegetables and fruits in each meal, preferably 50%. To have more satisfaction out of ur food, Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will also activate ur body to generate signals of hunger/fullness. Obey these signals.

Nothing other than water in between.

No special diet, call it by any name or program helps as one cannot adopt them on permanent basis. Diet pills are chemicals and per se bad and shud be avoided unless the doc considers it necessary looking at ur condition.

Take light exercises and brisk walks for 30 min.regularly preferably on empty stomach and twice a day.

U will achieve what u have not even dreamt and that too in a reasonable time and hassle free.

Be patient and not in a hurry.

U cannot choose spots for reduction.

This schedule can be adopted on permanent basis to lead a healthy life and maintain weight.

PostHeaderIcon why does natural antioxidants are better UV absorber and act as sunscreen materials?

A very simple way to protect adhesives against UV light is to prevent UV absorption, i.e. reducing the amount of light absorbed by chromophores. This can be achieved by incorporating UV absorbers in the adhesives, which function by preferentially absorbing harmful ultraviolet radiation and dissipating it as thermal energy.

Such stabilizers function according to the Beer Lambert law, which specifies that the amount of UV radiation absorbed is a function of both sample thickness and stabilizer concentration.
Residual light that does penetrate the skin can create free radicals – highly reactive molecules that can weaken or destroy cell membranes. Free radicals can also damage DNA, create age spots and wrinkles, and depress the immune system, increasing the risk of skin cancer.
The addition of antioxidants could significantly reduce the generation of free radicals.Effectiveness of three antioxidants: vitamin E acetate, vitamin E alcohol and sodium ascorbyl phosphate (stable vitamin C).

PostHeaderIcon Do vitamin b12 reduces Cysteine and Glutathione synthesis?

Methionine becomes Homocysteine and Homocystein becomes Cysteine with the help of Vitamin B6. While Vitamin B12 converts Homocystein into Methionine again.

Cysteine, Glutamic acid and Glycine are amino acids needed to synthesize Glutathione. Western diet is rich in Glutamic acid and Glycine but little Cysteine.

Do Vitamin B6 really increases Cysteine and Glutathione synthesis?

Do Vitamin B12 really reduces Cysteine and Glutathione synthesis?

Fredd didn’t answer your question!

PostHeaderIcon where can I buy phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide, the substrate of glutathione peroxidase 4?

From a drug supplier. Or else order it in through your pharmacy.

PostHeaderIcon Is it safe for a 13 yeard old to use a glutathione soap?

is it? and is it safe to take the glutathione supplement for a 13 years old? im not black, im filipino. My skin got darker and darker cause we always have to be outside for our activities in school and its so hot here. My skin is darker than tan now and i want my real color back. Please help…thanks!

you are too young to be using stronger stuff such as these. let you skin mature naturally. if you are using any whitening stuff you should avoid sun otherwise you are harming your skin. my advise is stop it now and you need to use sun block instead. you will get your nice color back once you make everything natural.do not rush to adulthood it is not fun without childhood. trust me, you will remember this once you are over 30.
good luck

PostHeaderIcon Natural Ingredients to Look for in the Best Selling Body Moisturizers

Are you frustrated with… the results you’re getting when you try out a new different body moisturizer?

Have you tried a moisturizer containing only natural ingredients yet?

There are some great natural products now available due to new breakthroughs in skin cream technology. Substances and ingredients are now being created to better help moisturize your skin and even reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

The best skin moisturizer should include moisturizers, emollients, antioxidants, natural oils, vitamins and minerals. The following are some natural ingredients to look for in the best selling body moisturizers.

D-Panthenol is vitamin B5; it is a pro-vitamin, moisturizer, emollient and humectant (increase water holding capacity of outermost layer of epidermis). It’s a great ingredient in a skin moisturizer because it serves a multi purpose.

Macadamia oil is one of the most effect ingredients a natural moisturizer should include. It has a naturally high concentration of palmitoleic oil (about 40%). It penetrates and hydrates the skin quickly, and is suitable for all skin types, especially irritated and dry skin.

Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10. CoQ10 a special nano-emulsion form of CoenzymeQ10. It penetrates deep into the skin, to rejuvenate and enhance cell activity and hydrate dry sensitive skin. It is also a natural nutrient and powerful antioxidant.

Jojoba oil – It contains natural tocopheroids (antioxidants found in vitamin E that disarm free radicals) to minimize oxidation.

Grapeseed oil – It has regenerative and restructuring virtues and has great skin moisturizing properties. It is astringent, to help tighten and tone the skin.

Crodamol CP – Derived from palm oil lipid. A nourishing plant based emollient; it is an ultra mild skin smoothing ester.

Glycerin – is a non-toxic and non-irritating plant based humectant. It comes from natural plant oil and is not petroleum-based.

The above ingredients help moisturize and hydrate your skin, keeping moisture loss from your skin to a minimum.

A couple of special ingredients that are specific in targeting your skins collagen and elastin matrix production are:

Cynergy TK a new unique substance developed just recently by a small company in New Zealand and only one of a handful of ingredients that can help to stimulate your own collagen and elastin to re-grow.

Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10. CoQ10 a special nano-emulsion form of CoenzymeQ10. It penetrates deep into the skin, to promote collagen and elastin cell activity; it can rejuvenate and hydrate dry sensitive skin. It is also a natural nutrient and powerful antioxidant.

Phytessence Wakame – Is a powerful antioxidant derived from Japanese sea algae. It’s also rich in b-group vitamins and minerals and helps soothe inflammation of the skin. It inhibits hyalurondase a harmful enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid which causes collagen and elastin fibers to lose their glue.

Finally, if your going to buy one of the best selling body moisturizers, make sure it includes some if not all of the above special hydrating, moisturizing and skin repair ingredients.

At my website, I discuss more issues relating to the best skin moisturizer, and other great new cutting edge ingredients. I now chose to use on my skin every day.

PostHeaderIcon Benefits of Vitamin B5, Sources and Deficiency

Vitamin B5 is also known as pantothenic acid. Its name is derived from the Greek word pantos meaning “from everywhere,” as small quantities of pantothenic acid are found in nearly every food.

In its functional form, vitamin B5 gets combined with another small, sulfur-containing molecule to form coenzyme A (or CoA). This conversion allows vitamin B5 to participate in a wide variety of chemical and organic reactions. Coenzyme A is needed to carry out various metabolic functions, and for the generation of energy in the form of ATP from fats, carbohydrates and proteins.

Roger J. Williams, the discoverer of pantothenic acid suggested that Vitamin B5 might be helpful in the management of certain medical disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

Functions of Vitamin B5

* Vitamin B5 is also known as the anti-stress vitamin at times. It is one of the eight water soluble B complex vitamins.

* Vitamin B5 helps production of the cellular antioxidant glutathione, and is therefore an essential vitamin for all life forms.

* Helps in the break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats for energy – thus a stamina enhancer.

* This vitamin plays an important role in production of adrenal hormones in the adrenal glands.

* Vitamin B5 helps to produce neurotransmitters, cholesterol required for proper nerve and muscle performance.

* It is also responsible for haemoglobin production and metabolism of toxins by the liver.

* It plays an important role in cell division, DNA reproduction and RNA transcription.

* It regulates the formation of stress hormones and hair pigmentation.

Deficiency of Vitamin B5

It is an unlikely that an adult will have a deficiency of vitamin B5 because of the availability of B5 in many foods, plus the fact that it is also produced by our intestinal bacteria.

However, a deficiency of Vitamin B5 causes fatigue, muscle weakness, personality changes, psoriasis, and headache. Vitamin B5 is often used to treat the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, edema, swelling, pain, and stiffness in joints.

Pantothenic acid is also recommended to prevent stress and relieve insomnia, arthritis, food intolerance and teeth grinding.

Oral application of pantothenic acid helps relieve many skin problems and cure wounds.

Who are at risk of Vitamin B5 deficiency?

* Women who are on birth control pills are recommended to take extra doses of Vitamin B5.

* Smokers and alcoholics also fall under this category.

* People undergoing stress, prone to allergies or eating too many refined foods might develop a shortage of this vitamin.

Symptoms of Vitamin B5 deficiency

· painful & burning feet

· skin abnormalities

· numbness and poor coordination

· abdominal and muscle cramps

· vomiting

· anaemia

· insomnia and depression

· stunted growth

· restlessness

Most of these symptoms and signs get resolved with external administration of pantothenic acid.

Vitamins B12, folic acid and biotin are required for proper use of vitamin B5 in the body’s biochemical activities. In addition, vitamin C somewhat helps prevent B5 deficiency.

Dosage of Vitamin B5

Since deficiency of pantothenic acid is rare, so there is no recommended daily intake for this vitamin. Pantothenic acid is mostly included in B-complex multivitamins. The RDA for men is 10 mg and women is 8 mg.

Normal daily intake of pantothenic acid for adults is 4 to 7 milligrams. Vitamin B5 should be taken with water, preferably after eating.

Pantothenic acid does not usually cause any side effects, but pregnant and lactating mothers should be careful to consume only the normal daily intake.

Vitamin B5 can be found in multivitamins, B complex vitamins, or sold individually under the name of pantothenic acid and calcium pantothenate. It is available in a variety of forms including tablets and capsules, and must be taken under medical supervision.

Dietary sources of Vitamin B5 -

The term pantothenic acid is derived from the Greek word pantos, meaning everywhere. Vitamin B5 is widely distributed in plant and animal food sources, where it occurs in both bound and free forms.

Pantothenic acid is richly found in peanuts, liver, kidney, cauliflower, mushrooms, seeds and other nuts, pumpkin, mushrooms, legumes, sweet potato, milk, soya, cheese, egg yolk, fish, chicken, wholegrain bread and cereals, and bananas. The richest sources of the vitamin are the ovaries of cod and tuna fish.

Breakfast cereals are also a good source if they have been fortified with pantothenic acid.

Do not add soda to the water used for cooking vegetables – it will destroy the pantothenic acid.

Vitamin B5 storage

Vitamin B5 is relatively unstable in food, and significant amounts of this vitamin can be lost through cooking, freezing, and commercial processing.

Vitamins are easily destroyed and washed out during food preparation and storage. Store vitamin supplements at room temperature, in a dry place that is free of moisture.

PostHeaderIcon Glutathione Good Health and Longevity

If you are like many people, you probably have not heard about the medical discoveries concerning the naturally occurring amino acid compound, glutathione. However, the discovery has been around for a little over ten years and it has only recently come into medical prominence when the link between the slow deployments of glutathione was linked to the development of autism. As well as this, the properties of glutathione have also been said to have anti-aging properties and have been used to help those who suffer from inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and asthma. The anti-inflammatory properties are what keep it appropriate among many people who are seeking help with these kinds of problems.

Everyone’s body has the ability to produce glutathione, but the most important function that it serves is as a sort of detoxification system for your body. This is because large amounts of glutathione are kept in your liver so that it can help to remove many of the harmful toxins that are ingested by turning them into bile so that they can be promptly removed from the body. For many years it has also been recommended as a natural substance that can help people who are getting off drugs by working to get the dangerous toxins out of the body.

There is also a beauty aspect to glutathione as some studies have shown that it has powerful anti-aging affects on the body. One of the reasons that some believe the body becomes more susceptible to the harmful effects of pollution and sunlight as it ages is that over the years the body produces less glutathione. Production capacity declines with age. A deficiency of glutathione can cause a lot of problems as well, especially with coordination and inflammatory disorders such as arthritis and asthma. One way to help make sure the body will not have a reduction of glutathione is to supplement with a glutathione precursor that supports the body’s ability to make its own glutathione. The most common way of achieving this is through the use of some kind of glutathione infused whey protein. Whey proteins are limited in their success, however. A new natural glutathione precursor has been developed by a doctor in the USA. The product is clinically tested and proven to raise glutathione levels in the body. Remarkable.
